Billa-Bali 2009: Meet the girls
"Want to have a funny experience? Take four extremely cool and talented Australians, mix with four very talented and amazing Americans, throw in a quirky South African and you have an experience of a lifetime with plenty of laughs (too many laughs for one stomach to handle - you should check out my six pack now...Courtney Conologue has got nothing on it hahaha!)," Dimity Stoyle.

In July this year we sent our top international junior team to surfing mecca, Bali (Indonesia), for a 10 day experience. Meet the girls:

"Balinese culture is very diverse. You really appreciate how beautiful the buildings and the statues are because so much effort has gone into making them. The architecture is very detailed and they use lots of different colours compared to our very reserved colours at home. They use lots of reds and oranges with lots of jagged carvings which are a darker colour usually".

"At the end of the trip, I had experienced great waves, enjoyed different parts of Bali and it's culture and met some unreal surfers which I now call friends".

"The shopping...oh the shopping! I came back after a big shopping session loaded up with DVDs, sunnies, handbags, wallets, jewellery, sarongs and I was stressing "oh my gosh I spent like $500 000 today!" I worked it out on a calculator to realize oh...that's only $50. Well that's the farthest $50 has ever gotten me!"

"The best part of trip for me was going over to Nusa Lembongan. I have never been there before and especially after the boat ride over it looked like heaven to me. It is the prettiest place i have ever seen, surrounded by crystal blue waters. The car free island was the perfect place to relax and chill out from the previous full on days of surfing. Even though the surf wasn't very good when we were over there, we still amused ourselves with our very own pool in our house, the ocean, the food and the late night talk sessions".

"There were some pretty intense dance-offs happening at our place! I saw some creative moves being thrown around. Haha. Catherine and Alessa owned it though, showing everyone how to do some rave thing with glow sticks".

"Bingin is a nature's wave machine. Every wave seemed perfect and it would enable you to just have fun and improve your surfing".

"The way people drove there was insane, you would see a family on one moped going over 50 miles an hour! Everybody driving on the street drove with no precaution, cars would be cutting each other off and speeding close to each other at the same time".

"The cool thing about this trip was that we got to see so much of Bali and interact with the Balinese people. We stayed in three totally different locations, and we drove all over the place looking for waves. I expected the gorgeous scenery, but I never expected how awesome the people were. The Balinese were some of the most friendly, warm, and peaceful people I've ever met. The people down there just seem so content with a simple and pure life; it really made me think about how little you need in life to be happy".
