Q& A
Q: Compare your rookie year on the World Tour to your second year on tour.
C: My first year on the WT was a total adventure from learning the ropes on tour to exploring new places around the world. Sure there were the insane nail biting heats and amazing beaches but the people I met and the friends that showed me around made those moments very special.
My second year on tour has been what I imagined the tour to be, the group of women on tour this year are all there to be the best in the water but when the heat is done each one of us are enjoying every moment we are having traveling around the world together.
Q: What was it like winning your first WT event this year?
C: Winning my first WT event was a goal I had always dreamed to catch and to have it turn into a reality made it true. All my training and working with my new shaper came together and now I know it is going in the right direction. Having my first WT win at Dee Why beach was everything I dreamt it would be, having Layne Beachley a surfing icon hand me my trophy, someone I had looked up to, and read about in every Surfing Girl Mag growing up was incredible. To have Steph and Sally chair me up the beach, two of the most amazing women I know was extremely special.
Q: What do you do to keep fit?
C: My fitness regimen is always a combination of water and land training. Currently I am working with my trainer at Extreme Athletics on strengthening my surfing without bulking and keeping it fun. We do a mixture of stability, plyometrics, strengthening and tons of other things that I feel I need to work on. Regarding a particular diet that I might follow, I don't really follow a diet. I listen to my body and how I'm feeling. I always seem to crave meat when I am training a lot and pasta too. I love fruit and veggies. I take a lot of vitamins too. I believe in hydrating and drinking lots of liquids that help my body recover from either long days training, competing, or just running around doing my everyday living.
Q: What other interests do you have outside of surfing?
C: I love to create, design, paint, adventure, train, take photos, explore the world, try new food, and whatever else looks fun that crosses my path. I'm continually trying to cross things off on my bucket list.
Philanthropy is something that I have always been involved with. I enjoy assisting in awareness, change, and prevention of various things that happen in our everyday living. Currently I am involved with SurfAid International and helping them with the awareness aspects of their organization. I assisted in bringing the educational program to a few schools in California. I am also doing similar tasks with B4BC and have many other things that are a work in progress about raising awareness.
Q: What are some of the things that you always bring when you travel?
C: My surfboard, wetsuit, passport of course, feather extensions and earrings that my sister has made, ipod, yoyo, journal/sketching pad, lil Italian shoes, bikini, workout wear, heels and nail polish.
Q: What type of fashion are you into?
C: I love natural with vibrant colors right now. I have always been in love with boots and scarves. Lately I have been wearing a nice simple top and accessorizing to have some fun. From time to time I love to have a little flare with my night wear but for the most part I love a slim fitting cut that has a classy fun look. I just found an amazing single sleeved slim fitted dress that I absolutely love and can't wait to wear to a special occasion.
